2020 annual Report
2020 was a year unlike any other. Between a global pandemic and a national reckoning on state violence in the aftermath of the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, last year challenged us as never before. As the pandemic claimed lives around the world, it posed a particularly grave threat to our neighbors in jails and prisons, where social distancing is impossible and health care is routinely neglected. The stark reality of a world in which one more day spent in jail could mean the difference between life and death forced the Philadelphia Bail Fund to redouble our efforts and greatly expand our work.
In 2020:
We freed 401 of our neighbors by posting nearly $2 million in bail.
With local partners, we organized over 20 advocacy efforts to demand an end to cash bail.
We continued our public education efforts to expose the widespread use of exorbitantly high bails amidst an unprecedented public health crisis.
We couldn’t have done any of this without your support.
